1. What can I expect from life coaching? You can expect that I will ask you questions that will help you reflect on what is important to you. These questions are meant to help you find your own clarity and truth. I take notes so that I can reflect your values and choices back to you. At the end of our session, you will create a goal or two with an intention to accomplish them before the next session. The pace of progress depends on your commitment to your working on these goals between sessions. For the record, I will never shame or blame you if your goals are not reached! Instead, we look at what might be trying to emerge instead of the goals you set.
2. Will it be a lot of hard work? I am already overwhelmed with responsibilities and don’t have much energy. It is very often the case that overwhelmed people seek life coaching. I get it! Life coaching offers a place of rest for busy people. I hold a safe, confidential space for your stories, concerns, worries, tears, laughter and grief. By listening and reflecting back to you what matters, your core values and direction gain clarity. You are the one in charge of moving forward; I am here to support you every step of the way.
3. Who are some of the people you work with? Leaders, executives, clergy, college students, new parents, grieving widows/widowers, retired professionals, teachers, artists. The age range of my clients is 25-70 right now. I also work with children on a limited basis.
4. How did they choose you as their life coach? Most people I work with are in some sort of transition. It might be a promotion at work or a desire to find a new job. Sometimes leaders find themselves needing to sort out their leadership style for a new situation or project. Then there are people, too many during COVID, who have experienced loss and grief. They seek a life coach to help them travel through what I call ‘the dark night of the soul.’ This also applies to people who are going through a divorce, retirement or the death of a loved one.
5. What is the difference between life coaching and therapy? Great question! Life coaching takes you where you currently find yourself in life and moving forward into the future. There may be aspects of your history that come along in this process but most of the time we are forward thinking and acting. Therapy is offered by a licensed therapist to help a person work through or resolve issues that may have originated in childhood, or through other life experiences. Therapists are clinicians skilled to work with people experiencing emotional distress or trauma which carries significant depression. Life coaching and therapy are then complimentary for people going through life transitions or healing from trauma.
6. Can I try it out even though I’m uncertain? Absolutely! Sign up for a free session first and let’s talk. I want to make sure that our personalities and styles are a good fit.
7. How long do people work with you as a life coach? Often people begin with multiple sessions once they arrive at a certainty about what they really want to address. Some clients work with me for a few months, others a few years as they establish healthy habits in a life transition. It’s your choice.
8. What is the golden thread a symbol of in your coaching? The golden thread for me is a symbol of life’s energy and purpose. I believe we are each born with this intact. As life unfolds, one’s golden thread can get tangled up by other people’s expectations or tied in a knot by uncertainties. My role as a life coach is to reclaim your golden thread, assess what shape its in and then help untangle it so energy and joy can flow in your life.
9. I’d really like to work with you as a life coach but I can’t afford your rates. So let’s talk! I believe that if someone is ready to work with a life coach, that person should have access to the services I offer. I am open to working on a sliding scale basis or bartering for services. Just contact me and let’s see what we can co-create to help it happen for you.
